Editorial Policy
Energy Transition Africa (ETA) is committed to producing accurate, independent, and responsible journalism on Africa’s energy transition, climate justice, and extractive governance.
This Editorial Policy outlines the principles, standards, and practices that guide our work.
Editorial Independence
Energy Transition Africa operates with full editorial independence.
Our editorial decisions are not influenced by governments, political parties, corporations, donors, or advocacy organisations. Where funding, partnerships, or collaborations exist, they do not determine our editorial positions or conclusions.
All opinions expressed in ETA’s analysis and commentary reflect the judgment of our editors and contributors and do not represent the views of any external institution.
Accuracy and Sourcing
ETA is committed to accuracy, fairness, and transparency.
- We strive to verify all factual claims before publication.
- We rely on credible sources, including official data, academic research, policy documents, and on-the-record interviews.
- Where information is uncertain or contested, we aim to make that clear to readers.
Errors, when identified, are corrected promptly and transparently.
Editorial Judgment and Analysis
ETA publishes both reporting and analytical content.
Our analysis is grounded in evidence, context, and political economy. We seek to explain not only what is happening but why it matters, particularly for African countries, communities, and institutions.
We do not promote predetermined policy outcomes. Instead, we examine trade-offs, risks, and consequences, recognising that Africa’s energy transition involves complex and often competing priorities.
Editorial Formats
ETA publishes across distinct editorial formats, each with a specific purpose:
- ETA Analysis — in-depth, evidence-based examination of policy decisions, power dynamics, and strategic choices.
- ETA Explains — clear explanations of complex energy, climate, and extractives issues.
- ETA Briefing — short, focused briefings highlighting key trends, signals, and developments.
- ETA Dispatch — timely commentary on reports, summits, announcements, and breaking developments.
- ETA Reports — original research, policy briefs, and special publications produced by ETA.
Each article is categorised by format to help readers understand the intent and depth of the content.
Corrections and Updates
ETA takes corrections seriously.
If a factual error is identified after publication, we will:
- Correct the error promptly.
- Add a clarification or correction note where appropriate.
- Ensure updated information is clearly reflected.
Readers who wish to flag a potential error are encouraged to contact us via the Contact page.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors and contributors are expected to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may affect their work, including financial, professional, or institutional affiliations relevant to the subject matter.
Where relevant, such disclosures will be noted within the article.

ETA may publish work by guest contributors, subject to editorial review.
All guest contributions are assessed for:

AI tools do not replace editorial responsibility.
