About Energy Transition Africa
Energy Transition Africa (ETA) is an Africa-focused media platform examining the politics, power, and people shaping the continent’s energy future.
We publish in-depth analyses, explainers, briefings, and reporting on Africa’s energy transition, from climate justice and the phase-out of fossil fuels to critical minerals, energy access, and governance. Our work connects global debates to African realities, grounding policy conversations in political economy, public accountability, and lived experience.
Africa sits at the centre of the global energy transition, yet too often, decisions about its resources, pathways, and people are made elsewhere. ETA exists to close that gap. We interrogate who benefits, who bears the costs, and what is at stake as Africa navigates competing development priorities, climate pressures, and geopolitical interests.
What We Do
Energy Transition Africa publishes across distinct editorial formats, each serving a clear purpose:
- ETA Analysis — in-depth, evidence-based analysis of policy shifts, power dynamics, and strategic choices shaping Africa’s energy transition.
- ETA Explains — clear, accessible explanations of complex energy, climate, and extractives issues.
- ETA Briefing — short, focused briefings highlighting key trends, signals, and what to watch.
- ETA Dispatch — rapid commentary on reports, summits, announcements, and breaking developments.
- ETA Reports — original research, policy briefs, and special publications produced by ETA.
Together, these formats help readers not only understand what is happening but why it matters.
Our Editorial Approach
ETA is guided by three core principles:
Clarity
We explain complex issues without oversimplifying them.
Independence
Our analysis is non-partisan and not driven by institutional or commercial interests.
African Perspective
We centre African political, economic, and social realities, not imported narratives.
We do not promote predetermined solutions. Instead, we examine trade-offs, tensions, and consequences, recognising that Africa’s energy transition will not follow a single path.
Who We Write For
ETA serves policymakers, researchers, journalists, civil society actors, investors, students, and engaged readers seeking credible, Africa-centred insight into energy and climate issues.
Our work is widely relevant to those working across energy access, climate finance, extractive governance, development policy, and international cooperation.
Independence & Transparency
Energy Transition Africa operates with editorial independence. Opinions expressed in our analysis reflect the judgment of our editors and contributors and do not represent the views of any government, institution, or funder.
Our Editorial Policy sets out our standards on accuracy, sourcing, corrections, and conflicts of interest.
